Welcome to Dafermou Winery
There is something undeniably romantic about getting married at a winery.
Perhaps it’s the rows of vines stretching into the countryside, the wine produced only metres from where you’re celebrating, or simply the idea of gathering everyone you love around beautiful tables as the sun disappears behind the hills.
Set above the Lefkara Valley, Dafermou Winery — or Ktima Dafermou — offers a completely different side of a Cyprus destination wedding.
Here, contemporary architecture meets the Cypriot countryside: concrete, glass and stainless steel sit alongside building techniques inspired by the Lefkara region, surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills. The winery itself was established in 2007 and works with more than 20 grape varieties grown across its vineyards in Lefkara, Vavatsinia and Agioi Vavatsinias.
For couples who love wine, food, beautiful landscapes and a celebration that feels elegant without necessarily feeling like a traditional hotel wedding, this is certainly a venue worth discovering.
When you’re planning your wedding in Cyprus from another country, seeing a few beautiful photographs of a venue isn’t always enough.
How large does it actually feel?
Where could you hold the ceremony?
Where will your guests have their drinks?
What happens once the sun goes down?
And perhaps most importantly — can you actually imagine your wedding happening there?
That’s exactly why I created my Finding Your Perfect Cyprus Venue series.
In this episode, come with me as we explore Dafermou Winery and see what this beautiful countryside venue could offer for your wedding celebration.
The ceremony
Against the surrounding vineyards, hills and open landscape, I would personally keep the ceremony styling quite considered.
This is a setting where you don’t necessarily need to build an enormous backdrop simply for the sake of having one.
Beautiful florals framing the ceremony, elegant chairs, a thoughtfully designed aisle and perhaps one or two statement arrangements can work with the landscape rather than competing against it.
And that’s something I always consider when designing a wedding: what does the venue already give us for free?
When the answer is vineyards, countryside and expansive views, we should use them.
The ceremony can take place within the venue – at the terrace or in another part of the venue, depending on your preferences and number of guests – or at a church in the nearby village – Lefkara village.
Cocktails at the winery
After the ceremony, the atmosphere can shift into something wonderfully relaxed.
Imagine your guests with a glass of wine in hand, overlooking the vineyards while you disappear for your photographs.
Because this is a functioning winery rather than simply a wedding venue styled to look like one, wine can become part of the experience itself. Dafermou produces its own wines and focuses on both local Cypriot and international grape varieties.
For a destination wedding, I particularly like touches like this.
Your guests haven’t travelled to Cyprus simply to attend a wedding in a beautiful room — you’re also giving them an experience of the island.
And enjoying locally produced wine in the vineyard where some of those grapes are grown feels wonderfully appropriate.
Dinner beneath the Cyprus sky
This is where Dafermou can really become magical.
The winery’s outdoor event space accommodates up to 550 guests. That makes it particularly interesting because Dafermou isn’t limited to intimate winery weddings. It can also work for substantial destination celebrations and larger multicultural weddings where guest numbers quickly move into the hundreds. It looks beautiful and full with both 100 and 500 guests, so is not limited to bigger weddings.
But capacity isn’t the part I find most exciting.
It’s what happens after sunset.
Dinner surrounded by the vineyards, beautiful tables filled with candles and flowers, wine being poured, music in the background and the countryside disappearing into darkness around you creates a very particular atmosphere.
And because the architecture itself is contemporary, your styling doesn’t necessarily have to become stereotypically “rustic winery.”
You could take this venue in several directions:
Modern Mediterranean. Minimalist. Romantic vineyard. Contemporary luxury. Organic garden. Candlelit Italian-inspired dinner.
That’s what makes the setting interesting from a design perspective.
Round tables, long tables, rustic wooden tables and chairs, luxurious chairs and tables all in white – the options are countless and entirely up to you.
An indoor option that doesn’t feel like a typical ballroom
The winery isn’t purely an outdoor venue.
Its indoor event space accommodates up to 350 guests, and the architecture allows guests to remain visually connected to the winery itself and the surrounding landscape.
High ceilings, glass, concrete, stainless steel and views into the winemaking environment give the room a much more contemporary, architectural character.
For me as a planner, having a genuinely attractive indoor space is extremely valuable.
Because although everyone planning a Cyprus wedding imagines dinner outside beneath a perfect sky, I always want to know:
What happens if we can’t?
A Plan B shouldn’t feel like the disappointing version of your wedding.
Ideally, it should simply feel like a different beautiful version of it.
A little trip to Lefkara
One of the things that makes Dafermou particularly interesting for a destination wedding weekend is its location.
The winery sits above the Lefkara Valley, around seven kilometres from the Skarinou exit on the Nicosia–Limassol motorway, with its official address in Pano Lefkara, Larnaca district.
That opens up another possibility beyond the wedding itself.
For international guests, a visit to the Lefkara area can become part of their Cyprus experience — whether incorporated into the wedding weekend or simply suggested as something to discover during their stay.
This is something I love about destination weddings.
The celebration doesn’t necessarily have to begin when the ceremony music starts.
It can become two or three days of experiences that introduce your guests to the place you’ve chosen to get married. A stay at the charismatic Lefkara village which offers a few different accommodation options combined with a winery wedding at the beautiful Dafermou winery will give your guests a full experience and taste of traditional Cyprus.
What I love about Dafermou as a wedding planner
For me, one of Dafermou’s biggest strengths is its versatility.
You get the romance and character of a vineyard wedding without being restricted to a tiny rustic property.
Old world and new world.
Cypriot countryside and contemporary architecture.
Wine production and elegant celebration.
Outdoor dinner beneath the stars and a genuinely interesting indoor alternative.
For the right couple, that combination can create something incredibly stylish.
Who would I recommend Dafermou Winery to?
I would definitely add Dafermou to your shortlist if your wedding vision feels:
Contemporary · Mediterranean · Vineyard · Elegant · Relaxed · Food & Wine Focused · Countryside
I’d particularly consider it for couples who love the idea of Cyprus but don’t necessarily want a beach or resort wedding.
It can also be an interesting option for a larger wedding. With outdoor capacity reaching 550 guests and indoor capacity of 350, Dafermou gives planners considerably more flexibility than many boutique countryside properties.
And for couples planning a multicultural destination wedding with substantial guest numbers, having that combination of space, outdoor atmosphere and indoor capability can be very valuable.
A few things I would consider before booking
As always, I wouldn’t choose a venue based on aesthetics alone.
The first consideration here is location and transportation.
Dafermou is in the countryside near Lefkara rather than within one of Cyprus’s main resort areas. For a destination wedding, that means I would think carefully about where the majority of guests are staying and organise transport accordingly.
Personally, I often prefer this anyway.
Guests can enjoy the evening properly without anyone worrying about driving back after dinner and wine.
The second consideration is season.
The outdoor setting is one of the venue’s biggest attractions, so your wedding month, ceremony time, etc. should all form part of the planning conversation.
And finally, I would always look carefully at how the space should be configured for your guest count.
Just because a venue can accommodate 550 people doesn’t mean every wedding should use its largest possible setup.
For a smaller celebration, thoughtful zoning, lighting, furniture and table placement become important so the wedding still feels intimate rather than lost within the space.
Could Dafermou Winery be your perfect Cyprus venue?
Perhaps when you picture getting married in Cyprus, you don’t see a beach at all.
Perhaps you see vineyards.
Long tables beneath the evening sky.
Glasses filled with local wine.
The last of the sunlight disappearing behind the hills.
Candlelight appearing across the tables.
And everyone you love gathered together somewhere that feels unmistakably Mediterranean, but a little unexpected.
If that’s closer to your idea of a destination wedding, Dafermou Winery may be worth discovering.
And that’s precisely why I created my Finding Your Perfect Cyprus Venue series.
There isn’t one “best” wedding venue in Cyprus.
There’s the venue that works beautifully for your guest list, your priorities, your style and the experience you want your wedding to become. If you’re considering Dafermou Winery — or you’re still searching for the Cyprus venue that feels completely you — I’d love to help you find it and create everything that comes afterwards.
